Bringing Meditation and Mindfulness into Organizing and Productivity: Strategies for Self-Care and Work with Clients
Meditation and mindfulness may be trendy, but how do they apply our everyday work with clients?
In this no-nonsense, no-jargon, non-religious session, we’ll
- play with some mindfulness and meditation techniques,
- analyze the benefits of these practices, and
- identify potential pitfalls to avoid.
We’ll discuss how you might already help your clients achieve a more mindful life, and brainstorm straightforward ways to integrate mindfulness / meditation into your self-care and work.
Session Objectives:
After attending this session, participants should be able to
1) Compare and contrast meditation and mindfulness.
2) Discuss how and why mindfulness and meditation techniques can improve focus and productivity.
3) Describe how work with clients can be a mindfulness practice.
4) Select a meditation or mindfulness practice to explore further, whether for self-care or work with clients.

About the Presenter
Trained in archaeology (the art of interpreting broken buildings and 2000-year old clutter), former professor Melanie Sobocinski of
Prof Organizer LLC has been a productivity coach for academics since 2012. She lectures on time management and writing strategies, and works individually with faculty and graduate students who want to find their desks and get more published. Melanie first got interested in the literature of productivity during graduate school, when she realized that she didn’t have a clue about how to write a dissertation, and that a lot of the advice for aspiring scholars didn’t work very well. Melanie recently earned her Associate Certified Coach credential from the International Coach Federation, and spoke on organizing academics at the NAPO 2017 conference in Pittsburgh. Melanie started meditating regularly in 2007, although she has been fascinated with the idea since graduate school. Today, meditation and mindfulness are the foundation of her daily self-care routines.
