What is a good way to network and learn more about the field of organizing?
Once you have decided to become a professional organizer, you can join the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO). See www.napo.net for more information. After becoming a member of NAPO, you may join the NAPO Southeast Michigan chapter by reviewing the various types of membership and completing the application form.

What are the benefits of membership?
Continuing Education: Learning is a lifelong process and now with a certification program in the works, continuing education is a critical need for NAPO members. Our chapter will offer various educational opportunities throughout the year.
Personal and Professional Support: Have you ever gotten stumped by an organizing problem or client? Have you ever felt that you just don't have the energy to accomplish your own business goals? The one-on-one interaction that a chapter gives is valuable. You will have the opportunity to participate in activities and become acquainted with other professional organizers. Remember, we're in this together.
Networking Opportunities: Working from home or in a small office can be challenging for a professional organizer. Networking is critical to staying sharp and remaining motivated throughout the year. Getting to know colleagues in your geographical area can help you with exchanging client referrals and provide you with professional resources for keeping your focus.
Directory: Our online chapter directory is a quick and easy way to find personal and professional support. Perhaps you have a client referral or need an extra boost of confidence; use the local directory to turn to your colleagues for mutual support.
Publicity: Our chapter participates in many activities that generate local media interest. Savvy professional organizers join forces with the chapter and take advantage of these opportunities to generate exposure for our industry and business opportunities for themselves.
Leadership: The Southeast Michigan chapter offers NAPO members a chance to be involved as an officer, director, or committee chair. Share and develop your leadership skills as you shape and lead our industry, develop credibility, and position yourself for PR exposure.
Credibility with Clients: Membership and leadership in your professional association demonstrate to clients that you care about your profession and are willing to participate in its growth.
Website Participation: Being a member gets your name in front of every prospective client who visits the NAPO National and NAPO Southeast Michiganwebsites. NAPO National refers clients to organizers on a regular basis through its automated referral system. The NAPO Michigan website provides the information prospective clients need to contact you directly. Both referral resources come at no additional charge.
